When it comes to storing stuff, we need every space we can get! Is the area under the sink safe? Let’s see what experts have to say about that!
It might seem convenient to put pots and pans and other items that you use for cooking, in a cabinet next to the stove. You might think other kitchen utensils belong in the middle drawer.
Whatever their location, we all have certain places to put items in the kitchen. There’s no right or wrong. Except when it comes to storing certain items under the sink. According to experts, it is not recommended to put just about anything in that area.
Here’s what should be left out of the kitchen sink area.
Kitchen sponges
If we were to look in the cabinet under the kitchen, would we find any kitchen sponges? Don’t feel bad if you store them there, most people do. But according to cleaning expert and the owner of Nashville Maids, Lauren Doss, sponges retain water and remain moist. Moisture and humidity are ideal environments for germs, bacteria as well as mold to thrive.
The best storage solution for sponges is in a dry, airy space.

You should leave a small bucket under the garbage disposal in case it leaks, especially if it is 6 years old or older. This will save you from cleaning up the mess in case it leaks. I know from personal experience!!!!
Appreciate the info!
Thank you
How would you describe an “absorbent mat” for under the sink? Do you mean something cotton, like a towel or dishtowel? Something like a bathroom mat? I’m just a little confused about what to look for that’s absorbent, but not a catch-all for dampness and germs or dangerous substances.
